A comment on meditation. You ask: "Why sit quietly and clear your mind when you could be getting stuff done?" One answer, from a lifelong meditator, is that the quieted mind gets stuff done better, with less inner chit-chat and fewer goofy mistakes. Works for me. Thank you for this!
Sorry, Suzan. I can be hopelessly literal minded and miss the joke. I thought you were asking the reader to consider a busy person’s take on these “navel-gazing” practices, widely spurned in US culture. I got hooked on meditation young and just wanted to share my positive experience. Reading yours and Paul’s thoughts on the Unitarians got me looking online. I know it’s hard to find community—I’m a new transplant here.
Well, I may have lost some of the snark in the editing process! Anyway, they're an easy group to get along with and in Coralville at least they have SO much going on it was easy to find ways to join in. So much nicer than having to build my own community from scratch now in my last chapter. Wish you the best.
Hm, I like that one too Denise! We have to have some language in our lives stronger than "thinking of you" that lets people know that 1. we know there are forces greater than we are and 2. we care about one another. Prayer is one of those that never sat well with me. As you can see, I struggle. I like "hold you in my heart." Thanks for that!
Great read Suzan! I am glad that you have found community. Prayer has always been a hard one for me to grasp. Recently someone wrote that they say “I will hold you in my heart.” I have adopted that. Much more comfortable to say.
Thanks Aubrey! Do you remember having to memorize the prayers? Did they make sense? You're so lucky if they did!
I loved this postcard, Suzan 🥰 Sounds like a great community you’ve found!

Yes, I was being facetious. It's a journey and I'm making slow progress! Thanks for reading.
